Stefano Schiavon is a Professor of Architecture and Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering at the Berkeley College of Environmental Design. He studies all of the factors that affect human comfort while simultaneously looking for ways to reduce energy consumption. In this episode, we talk about common sources of occupant dissatisfaction, and novel technologies to measure as well as address individual comfort. We learn the truth about the relationship between temperature and work performance. Dr. Schiavon’s work has revealed a lot of surprises, but he maintains his optimism that the design community is continuously learning from past mistakes and that our ability to create healthy, sustainable built environments is getting better all the time.
